This story has nothing to do with New Mexico politics but a team from Eastdale Albuquerque won the Little League World Series in Portland, OR, in convincing fashion, defeating Windermere, Florida 16-1 on Wednesday night (Aug. 15).
The girls from ABQ dominated the series, winning the semifinal game against Andersen, Indiana 12-1 and in six games in the tournament, Albuquerque outscored its opponents 67-5.
Wednesday’s game marked the first time since 1984 that a New Mexico team reached the finals.
Update: This from the Portland Oregonian:
Pitcher Shannon Stein allowed four hits and one run for New Mexico after having pitched 11 no-hit innings coming into the game. She batted .632 for the tournament.
“It’s a dream come true,” Stein said. “It feels good to show people that New Mexico is a great state.”
