More Than 4,800 New Jobs Created in New Mexico in Less than a Month from Stimulus, According to Obama Administration Data
Print This Post
The number of jobs created in New Mexico has exploded 1,200% in less than a month, according to data on the Obama Administration’s recovery.gov website, which tracks stimulus spending and claimed impacts. On October 21, 2009, New Mexico Watchdog reported that the www.recovery.gov website was claiming that only 419.02 jobs had been created from the expenditure of $263,559,000. As of October 30, 2009, the recovery.gov site is claiming that 5,241.94 jobs have been created. In other words, the Obama administration is claiming that in less than a month, more than 4,800 New Mexicans have reportedly been hired into new jobs created as the result of additional stimulus spending. That spending in New Mexico, according to recovery.gov, has now reached $1.645 billion.
The cost of these claimed new jobs comes to almost $314,000 each.
The Associated Press, CBS News, and the Boston Globe have found that the Obama Administration’s job creation claims have been wildly exaggerated or blatantly false. A summary of those reports is provided by Watchdog.org here.
New Mexico’s seasonally adjusted unemployment for September, according to the U.S. Department of Labor, stood at 7.7%, up from 7.4% in August, and 4.4% a year earlier. The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that the national unemployment rate rose to 10.2% in October.
