Right before the Thanksgiving weekend, we reported that Rep. Keith Gardner (R-Eddy, Chaves, Roosevelt, Lea) is stepping down from his current position to become the chief of staff for incoming Gov. Susana Martinez.

We caught up with Gardner this morning (Nov. 29) and talked to him about why he made his decision:

Since the governor will have the final say on Gardner’s replacement, Republicans run no risk of having a Democrat take over Gardner’s seat. Therefore, the Dems’ 37-33 advantage in the House remains.

You can read more about Gardner’s decision here.
